Nepal: A Baseline Study on Reported Cases of Elder Abuse in Nepali Press
Abuse and neglect of senior citizens is a growing concern of all societies. Proper understanding of the magnitude and characteristics of Elder Abuse is necessary for developing policies and programs to curb this social evil. This study, by the National Human Rights Commision Nepal and the Geriatric Centre Nepal, is based on cases of elder abuse reported in the two prominent national dailies, Kantipur and Anapurna Post, in a period of July 2008 to July 2010. Such data base limits study of cases that could not draw media attention, such as emotional and psychological abuse. Blaming an old woman for witchcraft was the second most common cause for physical abuse. To read more click here
