Saudi Arabia: Sorcerer Threatens Police with Unleashing ‘Jinn’

1st January, 2014:  A 44-year-old Egyptian man threatened Saudi police trying to arrest him for sorcery to unleash ‘jinn’ against them. But despite his arrest, he did not carry out his threat. Read more here.

South Africa: 33 Questioned for Burning ‘Witch’s’ House after Moloto Bus Crash

25th November: A group of residents accused a woman, who was in her 60s, of bewitching the bus driver in the Moloto Road accident. After the police had taken the woman away the group burnt down her house. Hlathi said police would decide in the course of the day how many of the 33 would be charged with arson. India: Two Held for ‘Sacrificing’ A Four-Year-Old

26th November: Police on Monday arrested two brothers on suspicion of killing a four-year-old child for black magic at Tapang area in Khurda. “Though there was no external injury on the body, we suspect it was a case of child sacrifice. Prima facie, we suspect he was strangulated. One of the accused was practicing witchcraft”. Read more here.

India: Three of a Family Killed for Allegedly Practising Witchcraft

27th November: Three of a family, including a woman, have been allegedly killed on the suspicion of practising witchcraft and their bodies recovered today in Assam’s Nagaon district, police said. The bodies of the two brothers and the wife of one of them, missing since last week, was recovered from a pit dug to bury them in Ranglur Pukhuribasti. France: Togolese Man on Trial in Paris for ‘Voodoo Exorcism Rape’

November 27th: The man, who faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, is accused of raping the niece of his girlfriend and her two elder sisters. The 41-year-old mother of the girls, who allegedly gave her consent to the rituals, also went on trial for complicity. Read more here.

South Africa: Man Hacked to Death on Witchcraft Suspicion

6th November: A forty-three year old man in Nakonde District has been hacked to death by unknown people on suspicion that he was practising witchcraft. Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Lemmy Kajoba said yesterday that an axe was found stuck in the neck of the victim at the time police picked the body. India: Karnataka Anti-Superstitious Bill: 13 Rituals Considered Evil Practices

5th NOvember: Thirteen superstitious rituals have classified as evil practices and amount to severe punishment according the draft model legislation on anti-superstition. The bill, which envisages the creation of a Karnataka Anti-Superstition Authority, has listed practices such as siddubhukti, maata, okuli, bettale seve, panktibheda and made snana as criminal offences. 7th November: A man began to accuse his neighbor of ‘witchcraft’ at a residence in the 800 block of Brighton Avenue early Monday, according to El Centro police call logs. Read more here.

Botswana: Heartless…Zimbabwean Man’s Heart Ripped Out in Ritual Murder

5th November: Machete-wielding thugs in Botswana killed a Bulawayo man and then ripped out his heart in a suspected ritual killing. Edmore Rundogo’s dismembered remains were found in Maun, about 500km from Botswana’s second city of Francistown. The killers then tried to burn the body, it is claimed, after a traditional healer they had hired to perform the ritual told them they had killed the wrong person.
