Washington: Man used voodoo to try and kill wife

Cheryl McLaughlin returned to her Northeast Washington home after work about two years ago to find candles flickering in her living room, with slips of paper under each that read: “make her stay” or “make her love me.” A year later, in summer 2012, McLaughlin got a puzzling phone call from a former neighbor. The neighbor had spotted McLaughlin’s estranged husband, Raymond Bradshaw Jr., lighting paper on the grill, chanting and spreading ashes around the back yard. Read more here.

India: Mother and son burnt to death for practicing witchcraft in Chhindwara

A mother and her three-year-old son were burned to death on April 2, 2013. They had been accused of practicing witchcraft in Pandhurna in Chhindwara district, which is about 171 miles south east of Bhopal. Their neighbors had suspected that the woman was a tonhi (sorceress). Their accusations resulted in the neighbors attacking and setting both mother and child on fire. Read more here.

Four persons were arrested today for allegedly piercing the tongue of a woman with a needle after dubbing her a witch in Jharkhand’s Latehar district last Sunday, police said. Read more here.
