Nigerian prostitutes enter into voodoo-contracts in order to get to Europe. Justice politicians and aid lawyers along with the ROSA project now believe that voodoo priests might help them in a desperate situation. Several trafficking sentences in Norway and Europe describe how Nigerian women undergo magical rituals were they commit themselves to pay a debt to those who help get them to Europe, less dark forces will maim or kill them and their family members. Nigeria: In Abia, borehole operators use juju to attract customers

Operators of commercial water boreholes in Abia State do embark on fetish rituals and sacrifices to draw customers to themselves and make more money than their colleagues. In so doing, they put the lives of their customers in danger by hiding charms, amulets and even live animals in their tanks so that water drinkers will always want to buy water from their pumps. Tanzania: ‘We are killed, we are hunted’: Albino activist fights witchcraft murders

In recent years, there’s been an increase in the deaths of albinos in Tanzania. At the heart of the problem, are rumors that albinos’ body parts can bring wealth and good luck. Zambia: Zion Church member fined for accusing another of witchcraft

A MAN from Zion Church has been fined KR1,000 for accusing his friend of being a witch without having sufficient evidence. Josias Moono told senior court magistrates Martha Tembo, Kalunga Chansa and Mukuka Ngandwe that he, Misopela and Jam teamed up to bewitch his brother Steven Moono, who is a police officer at Chinyunyu Police Post, because they were jealous of him. Zambia: 90-year-old woman torched to death on suspicion that she was a witch

A 90-year-old woman was torched to death on suspicion that she was a witch yesterday in Ndola. Copperbelt police commissioner Mary Tembo confirmed the tragic incident and identified the deceased as Fanny Nankani. Read more here.

Uganda: 13 arrested over Luuka police riot

Police in Luuka last week arrested 13 people, after they rioted at  Ntayigirwa police post. The residents were protesting the recent killing of a 13-year-old boy in a suspected ritual murder. They tried to lynch a key suspect, a one Kapere, but the police intervened to save him. Read more here. 

Kenya: Witchcraft In Kenyan Soccer Exposed

Witchcraft and superstition have been twin pillars of the local game, particularly when it involves veritable giants Gor Mahia (K’Ogalo) and AFC Leopards (Ingwe). Tales have been told of some officials consulting ‘team doctors’, who hire dead bodies from the mortuary, which are brought to the stadium to ‘cleanse’ the pitch on the night before a match.
