India: Two arrested in Pune’s first black magic case

In the first case registered in Pune under the newly passed Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, the Vishrantwadi police have arrested two persons including a woman for practising witchcraft. India: Woman burns infant son to appease deity

Sivasagar, Dec. 24: A woman killed her five-month-old son as a religious sacrifice to appease a deity at Sonari town in Sivasagar district, about 360km from Guwahati.

Ranju Devi, 25, believed that sacrificing her child Laxman Saha would eradicate ill luck from the family. “She observed a ritual on Monday midnight at her home and burned her son to death. The baby was placed in a fireplace erected during the ritual,” a source said. Read more here

Saudi Arabia: Sorcerer threatens Saudi police with unleashing ‘jinn’

A 44-year-old Egyptian man threatened Saudi police trying to arrest him for sorcery to unleash ‘jinn’ (ghosts) against them. But despite his arrest, he did not carry out his threat. Read more here

Nigeria: Father of two held for ritual killing

Despite his consistent denial, Morufu Olanrewaju is an alleged ritualist. He is currently at the centre of the killing of a yet-to-be identified woman in Opeoluwa Agoro, a community in Ado-Odo Ota local government council. Kenya: Witchcraft scene, story created to suit mindset

Dar es Salaam. I read in dismay a story about 37 Mbeya residents, who were arraigned recently for burying alive an 80 year-old man, Alison Mwaikasu, allegedly for bewitching his son Juma Mwaikasu, 46, from Mishewe Village.

But doctors from Ifisi Hospital, where the son was admitted, said the latter had died of stroke. A few months ago, another old man was buried alive over witchcraft allegations in Mbeya Region. He, too, was believed to have bewitched a relative, who died on the same day. Read more here
