Ghana: Fall of the cedi is due to black magic

The National Women’s Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress has blamed the steep depreciation of the cedi against the dollar and other major trading currencies to black magic or juju.

Anita Desooso, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show of Monday February 10, 2014, said the activities of magicians, who conjure money as part of their stock in trade, have a direct effect on the cedi, which is witnessing unprecedented depreciation in recent times.

India: Headless body of man found along with a rooster torso and head, human sacrifice suspected

The headless body of a man was found by the locals near Mangrul road this morning. The police were immediately informed, and later took the body for post-mortem. The body is yet to be identified.

Marks of a sharp object were found on the man’s neck. But what shocked the locals and the police was the recovery of a torso and head of a cock lying near the dead body of the man. This led the locals to suspect that the man’s death could have been a result of human sacrifice.

Ghana: Woman confesses to being a witch for 45 years

A 63-year-old woman (name with held for now), claims that she is a witch and is looking for spiritual intervention to free her from the demons.  She claims she has lived with witchcraft for 45 years. According to her, she has used her witchcraft over the years to ruin her family members, who have in turn rejected her.

India: Sorcery slur on Dalit family

Witchcraft, which has seen many innocent persons being offended, tortured and even murdered in rural Odisha, has hit a Dalit family hard at Kashipur village in Rayagada district. The family has been ostracized by villagers for the past 20 months allegedly for practising sorcery.

With the village out of bounds to them, Angad Naik with his family of five, including two sons and a daughter, are residing at a small hut in his field at Silagummapadar, 3 km from block headquarters of Kashipur.

Kenya: Suspected witch escapes lynching as chief is injured

A senior chief’s mission to rescue a suspected witch in Kisii County landed him in hospital.

Caleb Okengo was mercilessly beaten up by an angry mob in Nyamondo location when he arrived at an elderly woman’s home to rescue her from irate villagers.

Uganda: Kid Survives Child Sacrifice, Returned to Mother

Police in Kyengera yesterday officially handed over Katongole Thaddeus, a four year-old boy who survived being sold to a traditional doctor.

Man Byakatonda, Thaddeus’ father, who tried to sell him for Shs 15m to a traditional healer in Nsangi, was arrested by police and detained.

Russia: Man Jailed for 12 Years in Russia Over Ritual Satanist Killing

A Russian satanist has been jailed for 12 years for murdering a fellow sect member during a ritual near Moscow. During a ceremony in May 2011, the man tied up his victim and beat him with sticks. He then went on to strangle the sect member to death, investigators said.

South Africa: Police must pay healers falsely accused of muti murder

The minister of police will have to compensate two traditional healers who were arrested and detained for over 10 months after they were falsely accused of murdering a man and harvesting his body parts.

Judge Mmonoa Teffo ruled the police were liable to compensate Seshego traditional healers Maselaelo Lizbeth Phasha and Bernardo Munday Bila, resulting from their unlawful arrest, detention and malicious prosecution in 2006.

South Africa: Gruesome muti-murder accused, Afrikaans builder Eduard Pretorius 33, slaughtered Maria Mathe

Gruesome muti-murder: first-ever known incident where an Afrikaans-speaking man is accused of a muti-murder (slaughtering a person and harvesting the body parts for resale to a witch doctor).

Local Swartruggens builder Eduard Pretorius, 33 is to appear in Swartruggens court on Feb 7 2014: the SAPS says he ‘s charged with slaughtering Maria Mathe, 25, and that he has confessed that he was offered R30,000 for her body-parts by a local witch-doctor.

Philippines: Three Muslim brothers butcher their mother in a ritual killing before eating her organs

Neighbors reported hearing strange noises coming from the family home for days before the body of Musala Amil, 56, was found in Ampatuan, Philippines. Police discovered the badly mutilated body with several parts missing, drained of blood. Brothers Dante, 35, Paroy, 21, and the youngest Ibrahim, 18, all deny killing their mother.

They said they had been trying to drive away an illness they believed was brought on by a bad spirit.
