Nigeria: Police Discover House used for Human Sacrifice at Ewekoro LGA, Ogun State

A den where people are killed for ritual purposes was yesterday uncovered in Ogun State by men of the Police Command.

Things discovered by armed policemen when they stormed the den included fresh human parts sliced into pieces, human intestines, plastic containers filled with human blood, ladies’ pants, braziers, ladies and men shoes, blood-stained dresses, knives and duvet.

Botswana: Witchcraft linked to BDP primary elections

Skeletons are tumbling out of Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) closet amid allegations that witchcraft was at the centre of campaigning in the 2013 primary elections.

In the latest revelation, some candidates in South East North are alleged to have resorted to the power of evil spirits that saw incumbent MP Olebile Gaborone lose the hotly contested Bulela Ditswe primary elections to his archrival Elijah Katse.

Zimbabwe: Woman gives birth to ‘baboon’

A young couple’s dreams of parenthood turned into a nightmare after they gave birth to a creature-like baby resembling a baboon recently. 

Chief Chireya of Gokwe North, confirmed the strange incident to this paper yesterday. He said the unfortunate couple approached him with their two-faced ‘baby’ last week. Chief Chireya said the strange “baby” was born outside hospital at the couple’s homestead.

Kenya: Embu elders accuse Nditi of witchcraft

The Embu Council of Elders (Nyangi Ndiiriri) has accused acting Governor Dorothy Nditi of using witchcraft to protect herself from political opponents. The council chairman Andrew Njeru said they have evidence that Nditi visited a witchdoctor at night.

Njeru said the acting governor sought the witch-doctor’s services in Mbeere North district on March 18.

Ghana: Ejisu police to prosecute six for attempted human sacrifice

Police at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region are due to arraign before court 24 year old spiritualist and five others for an alleged attempt to sacrifice a teenage girl for riches.

Chana Nelson, also known as K-Grusi and his accomplices, natives of Atia in the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality were picked up following a complaint filed by the 17 year old girl who had escaped from their grip.

Nepal: One Arrested for Assaulting Woman on Witchcraft Allegation

Area Police Office Pipara has re-arrested Prachanda Tharu of Niglihawa VDC-1 on March 31. Tharu, who was arrested earlier for assault of a woman on witchcraft allegation, was released by the police following a settlement.

He was arrested again after the news regarding police settling a criminal case was published in human rights news portal www.inseconline.org and various other media.

Namibia: Psychologist warns parents against witchcraft claims

A clinical psychologist has cautioned the Omaalala community against planting seeds in the minds of the youth that the strange behaviour displayed at the Mvula Junior Secondary School is the result of witchcraft.

Oshakakati State Hospital psychologist Dr Mnubi Farahani further warned that if learners are allowed to continue pretending that they have been bewitched, there is little chance that they will recover.

Nigeria: Parents urged to stop tagging children with witchcraft

Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sarah Yusuf has challenged parents to stop tagging their children with witchcraft in view of the social trauma but extend love and train them to discover their God-given talents.

Yusuf threw the challenge yesterday while receiving a child, Barnabas Aminu from the Social Works Department of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, who was almost killed by his biological father on account of witchcraft, for rehabilitation.

Nigeria: Surge In Ritual Killings In Our Land: Any Antidote?

Criminal activities and man’s inhumanity to man have continued to take different dimensions every day. Various media in different parts of the globe have become awash with reports of various types of killings caused by various factors such as political and ethnic violence, religious extremism, banditry, cult war and ritual acts.

While we read in papers, social media, and watch on television screens, horrible reports of Boko Haram killings in different parts of the North, ritual killings are becoming a recurring incident, especially in different parts of Southern Nigeria. Though the act of killing for ritual purposes has existed for a long time, the rate at which the act is perpetrated nowadays is becoming alarming.
