The Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), George Mayunga, has ordered officers commanding districts (OCDs) in the region to prepare lists of all witch doctors in their respective areas in an effort to control ritual killings.
RPC Mayunga issued the directive to Muleba, Bukoba, Biharamulo, Ngara, Misenyi, Karagwe and Kyerwa OCDs following reports that a standard one pupil in Muleba district was murdered in a ritual killing.

A young couple is being detained at Ndakaini police station in Gatanga, Murang’a county, for the killing of their six-year-old son. Zakayo Kamau, 24, and Naomi Wanjiru, 25, are suspected to have intercepted Ian Mwaura as he left school for home on May 22.
Police said the suspects are believed to have strangled to death the standard one pupils and chopped off his private parts. Gatanga police boss Samuel Mukusi yesterday said the couple then dumped the body in a latrine in a tea plantation.

In the villages of Nyang’iti, Ritembu, Itibo, and Mogenda in Kisii County, less than two kilometres a part, lies five freshly dug graves covered with a little flora. Ruins of torched houses and deserted homes are what has remained of these villages following the lynching of suspected witches.
Many villagers are in panic following the mystery surrounding the death of their loved ones. The five graves belong to elderly people who on different occasions were tortured and burnt to death, a horrific practice that appears to be on the increase in Gusii land.

An elderly couple, suspected to be practising black magic, was killed allegedly by three women in Chhattisgarh’s tribal dominated-Jashpur district, police said.
Paatrik Kujur (62) and his wife Alveshiya (58) were beaten to death by the women of their village Anghla under Aasta police station limits on suspicion of practising witchcraft, Jashpur Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Pandey said.

The writer examines the fact that many Nigerians adopt the witchcraft explanatory model to give coherence to life experiences and events and the accusation leveled against illiteracy and lack of exposure as being a major cause of this prevalence of witchcraft consciousness in Nigeria.
So, it is the writer’s opinion that there are fundamental causes or reasons for this. Either it involves the very nature and thinking process of the average Nigerian, or it is something enshrined in the socio-cultural Nigerian setting. Another case of killing people in the name of practicing witchcraft has come to the fore in Meghalaya where a brother and sister accused of practicing witchcraft were murdered by the mob.
Police informed that on Sunday, around 5 pm, residents of Pala Kseh village in East Jaintia Hills led by Shngain Lamare, Marbud Iakai, Boin Paslein, Loin Paslein, Sen Paslein and Bai Paslein went to the house of Desment Salahe (43) at Umkyrpong village. The people were armed with lethal weapons and they murdered Desment Salahe and her brother Nes Salahe (45).

35 year old Boniface Ohakwe is now cooling his heels in police custody for allegedly killing his 12-year old niece, Miss Kelechi Ohakwe, for ritual intents…
Kelechi’s father, Mr. Alex Ohakwe, said he lacked words to amply describe what the entire family was passing through.
“I am aware that Kelechi was very fond of her uncle and was ever ready to run errands for him before this incident. It is baffling that it was the same man my daughter loved and helped that ended up killing her for supposed ritual purposes”, the aggrieved man lamented.

A 32-year-old man is currently on the run after pouring acid on his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Mavis Temah at Lapaz in Accra.
Reports say Kwabena Ofosu poured the acid on his ex-girlfriend’s face and parts of her body while she was asleep.
His actions were based on a purported revelation by a pastor that the lady had used him for “juju”, hence his long running sickness.

A 50 year old Farmer at Akwatia in the eastern region, Kennedy Owusu Was on Sunday 18th May 2014 summoned before the Akwatiahene’s (Akwatia Chiefs Palace) and whipped severely on the Orders of Akwatiahene, Osabarima Kofi, Boateng III, for cutting down a huge Tree at the Cemetery for his personal use.
His crime was that he had gone to the Akwatia Cemetery to cut down a huge tree which serves as a form of protection for the people of Akwatia. According to sources the Tree serves as a playing ground for the witches of Akwatia and its surroundings.
