India: 1 killed near Sambalpur for practising ‘witchcraft’

SAMBALPUR: An old man was killed and his wife critically injured when a group of villagers allegedly attacked them at Tamperkela village, about 35 km from here, accusing the couple of practising witchcraft. India: Karnataka follows Maharashtra in curbing black magic; readies bill to crack down on superstition

BANGALORE: The state government has decided to wield the legislative stick to outlaw obscurantist practices in Karnataka. It will bring in legislation outlawing black magic and superstitions on the lines of the Maharashtra government ordinance. A month after the northern neighbour promulgated it, the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman Evil and Gory Practices and Black Magic Bill, 2013 is being readied. Masvingo — A 79-year-old Bikita man allegedly died after his son reportedly pummelled him with a log several times on the head after being accused of possessing a goblin that was causing mysterious deaths in the family.Philimon Kanhiwayi of Zema Village in Mazungunye communal lands was allegedly hit with a log by his son, Moses Chisakaregwa (25) on Tuesday night until bled from the nose and mouth.
