South Africa: Limpopo witchcraft victim to be laid to rest

A Limpopo pensioner who was burnt to death, allegedly by community members who accused her of witchcraft, will be laid to rest at Shimawuswa village outside Giyani, early on Saturday. 

The 61-year-old Mamayila Nkuna was accused of witchcraft after a man was found dead in the village two weeks ago.

Kenya: Celebrity reveals how he was asked for human sacrifice

A local musician has told that he is on the run fearing for his life after he declined to give a human sacrifice of a close relative in exchange for money and fame. “I am running away from Kenya in fear of my life,” the artiste known as Robinson Opiyo whose stage name is Rio-D said. He says that his life took a strange turn two months ago when his friend, a fellow musician approached him with an offer that could catapult him to a world of fame and riches.

South Africa: Ritual murder suspects to appear in court

Two 16-year-old teenage boys accused of killing two Soweto schoolgirls, allegedly as part of a satanic ritual, are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates Court this morning.

The bodies of 15-year-old Chwayita Rathazayo and 16-year old Thandeka Moganetsi were discovered on Wednesday morning by a community member who was passing by a field in the Dobsonville area. The police’s Neville Malila says the boys were arrested at the George Khosa Secondary School yesterday, which is the same school which the victims attended.

India: Police rule out human sacrifice in Vazhapadi schoolgirl murder

A day after the body of a Class V schoolgirl was found hanging from a tree in Perumal Kovil Karadu near Vazhapadi, the district police are clueless on the motive of the murder, but said it could be a case of sexual assault.

Superintendent of Police R. Sakthivel, who conducted an inquiry in the victim’s village in Chendrampalayam on Sunday told The Hindu that five special teams were formed to investigate the case. He ruled out the possibility of human sacrifice.

South Africa: Satanic killings: Friends fear they might be next

Friends of two murdered Soweto schoolgirls on Wednesday said the teenagers were killed as part of a Satanic ritual.
The bodies of the teens, aged 14 and 16, were found in a ditch in Dobsonville. Police said no one has been arrested yet.

Their friends claimed they know who is behind the deaths. “There are three of them. It’s two guys and a girl (and) they’re part of Satanism. And the teachers even know about it,” said a friend, crying.

South Africa: Teenage girls found dead in Dobsonville

Two 16-year-old girls dressed in school uniform have been found dead in a field off Braam Fischer Drive in Dobsonville, Soweto.

The girls were found with deep cuts on their necks and bodies. Candles and bloodied razors that looked brand new were found close to the bodies.

India: Assam police officer campaigns against a social evil

Determined to end a social evil that still haunts rural and backward areas of Assam, a police officer’s initiative and perseverance has resulted in raising awareness about the scourge of witchcraft that is often used bizarrely to settle personal scores and land disputes in villages.

With some 100 cases registered in the past five years due to the initiative called Project Prahari (guard), the “deterrence factor” may have resulted in increased vigilance but actual arrest of the culprits have been few due to the absence of witnesses, the prime mover behind the project said.

Miriam Ndlovu, the owner of the Lobengula house where two huge snakes were found on Friday, in what is suspected to be an act of witchcraft, says she wants to take the serpents to Beitbridge, her rural home to perform a ritual to “catch who ever sent the snakes to her.”

USA: Former W Hotel employee accused of practicing Voodoo and witchcraft sues

A former employee of a hotel chain alleges she was fired after co-workers started slanderous rumors about her being involved in witchcraft and Voodoo. Marie T. Hall filed suit against W Hotels, an affiliate of Starwood Hotels and Resorts WorldWide in the Orleans Parish Civil Court.

The plaintiff claims shortly before her termination, employees spread rumors about Hall being much older than she looks and that she is a practitioner of evil witchcraft. Hall is of Haitian descent and believes these rumors linked her to discriminatory narratives of Voodoo.

Nigeria: Native Doctor’s Charm Kills Pastor, One Other Accused of Witchcraft

An unholy alliance between a family and a native doctor has allegedly claimed the lives of two people in Zwall village of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The family of Adamu Goni and a native doctor (names withheld) agreed to administer charms on four members of the family, including a pastor, over their alleged involvement in witchcraft.

The family, it was learnt, had been worried over calamities befalling its members, so it sought solutions from a native doctor.
