Zimbabwe: Woman gives birth to ‘baboon’

A young couple’s dreams of parenthood turned into a nightmare after they gave birth to a creature-like baby resembling a baboon recently. 

Chief Chireya of Gokwe North, confirmed the strange incident to this paper yesterday. He said the unfortunate couple approached him with their two-faced ‘baby’ last week. Chief Chireya said the strange “baby” was born outside hospital at the couple’s homestead.

Kenya: Embu elders accuse Nditi of witchcraft

The Embu Council of Elders (Nyangi Ndiiriri) has accused acting Governor Dorothy Nditi of using witchcraft to protect herself from political opponents. The council chairman Andrew Njeru said they have evidence that Nditi visited a witchdoctor at night.

Njeru said the acting governor sought the witch-doctor’s services in Mbeere North district on March 18.

Ghana: Ejisu police to prosecute six for attempted human sacrifice

Police at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region are due to arraign before court 24 year old spiritualist and five others for an alleged attempt to sacrifice a teenage girl for riches.

Chana Nelson, also known as K-Grusi and his accomplices, natives of Atia in the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality were picked up following a complaint filed by the 17 year old girl who had escaped from their grip.

Nepal: One Arrested for Assaulting Woman on Witchcraft Allegation

Area Police Office Pipara has re-arrested Prachanda Tharu of Niglihawa VDC-1 on March 31. Tharu, who was arrested earlier for assault of a woman on witchcraft allegation, was released by the police following a settlement.

He was arrested again after the news regarding police settling a criminal case was published in human rights news portal www.inseconline.org and various other media.

Namibia: Psychologist warns parents against witchcraft claims

A clinical psychologist has cautioned the Omaalala community against planting seeds in the minds of the youth that the strange behaviour displayed at the Mvula Junior Secondary School is the result of witchcraft.

Oshakakati State Hospital psychologist Dr Mnubi Farahani further warned that if learners are allowed to continue pretending that they have been bewitched, there is little chance that they will recover.

Nigeria: Parents urged to stop tagging children with witchcraft

Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sarah Yusuf has challenged parents to stop tagging their children with witchcraft in view of the social trauma but extend love and train them to discover their God-given talents.

Yusuf threw the challenge yesterday while receiving a child, Barnabas Aminu from the Social Works Department of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, who was almost killed by his biological father on account of witchcraft, for rehabilitation.

USA: 2011 murder case described as “voodoo ritual” goes to trial

A Kansas man accused of beheading another man with a guitar string three years ago and keeping his head has pleaded not guilty to premeditated first-degree murder.

James Paul Harris, 29, is accused of garroting 49-year-old James Gerety, of Topeka, in March or April of 2011 and keeping Gerety’s head for some sort of religious reason, prosecutors allege.

USA: Ritual animal abuse cases raise concern about human sacrifices

A spate of bizarre ritual animal killings has left Washington Police bracing themselves for a budding killer in the making. A strange collection of animals were killed and slaughtered in a manner which criminologists are concerned is a precursor to human abuse or sacrifice.

The abuse of animals automatically instigates a whole raft of other investigations in U.S. states and is a predictor of other more sinister abuse on children and adults and is a hallmark of the early crime records of serial killers, according to criminologists.
